I've been so miserable with this latest cold that I called the doc. I was coughing so hard it is making my stomach and ribs really sore.........any how now that I'm 20 weeks I can take sudafed! YIPPEEE! I've never been so happy to take a drug. It has to be the 4 hr kind but anything has got to help. :)

4 am fun

Well today I had an interesting episode. I woke up at 4 am with an extreme sharp pain in my appendix area. I had this once before but it passed quickly and I forgot about it. Not this time. I couldn't move, breathe deep or let pressure off of the area without it killing me and it was constant not letting up at all. By 4:30 with no relief Nick called and left a message for the doc on call and he/she never called back. Nick tried to help me stand to go to the bathroom but that didn't work well either. I couldn't put any weight on my right leg or straighten it away from the cramping. I can honestly say I never felt anything like it and I don't want to again. It was almost 6 am until it started letting up. Today it feels like a pulled muscle and is tender to touch. I called the doctor today and talked to a nurse. The first question is always....are you bleeding. I wasn't and it didn't feel anything like what contractions are described as. I was actually concerned that it might be my appendix. The nurse said it usually doesn't last that long but that it's most likely Round Ligament pain. What? She said it happens a lot with women who are pregnant with twins since their uterus grows so rapidly. I looked it up on the internet. (cuz we know everything on the internet is true.) lol
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Round Ligament:
Typically in the non-pregnant state the uterus is about the size of an apple or pear. There are thick ligaments which hold the uterus in place in the abdomen, referred to as round ligaments.

During pregnancy, your uterus will expand in size and weight, and the ligaments supporting it will have to stretch, becoming longer and thinner. As these ligaments pull and tug they may irritate nearby nerve fibers, which causes pain. The severity of the pain in some cases can seem extreme.

Some common symptoms of round ligament pain include:

Ligament spasms or contractions/cramps that trigger a sharp pain typically on the right side of the abdomen.
Pain upon waking or suddenly rolling over in your sleep.
Pain in the abdomen that is sharp brought on by exercise or other vigorous activity.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds like it. She told me to take Tylenol and put a heating pad on it all day. She said if it isn't any better tomorrow to call back in. She wants to make sure at that point that it's not my appendix. The heat feels good....I still have cramping pain there on and off and it's still sore. I REALLY hope this doesn't keep happening. My belly keeps getting bigger every day. I feel like I have a large watermelon attached to me at this point. Everything of course is measured by the size of fruit. Is there a fruit bigger than a watermelon? The nurse said to sleep with lots of pillow support around my belly and to support my belly when rolling over, standing and sitting. What the heck do you do when you're sleeping and you roll over? The pain woke me up. How odd is it that it usually happens on your right side? Weird.

So how concerned should we be that the doc on call never called us back. hmmm.........

It's a bird...a plane...A WATERMELON!!! and to think I'm only 1/2 way there.

Getting Kicks

It's more than a flutter now and I don't need to be still to feel them. Last night when I sat down the girl (left side low) kicked (or punched) lol. It felt like someone quickly tapping on my belly with their fingers. Then today the boy started kicking my right side high. It surprised me. Now I want them to do it again to see if I can feel from the outside.

I keep getting bigger and bigger......my belly is hard now, very round, straight out front so far and my belly button no longer is an innie, kinda weird looking. No room for the navel piercing anymore either. The babies are supposed to be adding fat to their bodies this week and their hearts are supposed to be developing more. They will check the hearts closely during the next ultrasound. I'm having more of a balance problem now because of the belly. Do you ever get use to it cuz it keeps getting BIGGER. lol

I also didn't realize how many people were reading this blog. I meant it as kinda a silly diary for us to look back on and a place to post photos. I'm kinda embarrassed now. I still plan on writing the same way but stand warned it wasn't meant to be THAT public. lol

Bigger Every Day

The belly amazingly gets bigger everyday. Noticeably bigger. It's pushing up now and is looking more and more like a ball. It's not as hard as a ball yet but it's looking like one. No one is really arguing that I'm showing at this point, in fact people are suddenly letting me go first and what not. That doesn't happen much here in York. Do I look that big? lol My husband even opened my car door after we went to a basketball game. And as a side note he made me chicken alfredo from scratch the other night. Stuff really does taste better when you don't have to be at close range to smell it when it's cooking. Today was a really good day. I tried on one of the shirts that the other Robin from church sent me and it fits and it's cute. It's dressy. Much better than the sweatpants I've been rocking. I was meeting Melissa for lunch so I actually put some heeled boots on and wore a normal pair of my jeans. They are tight enough to stay up without the zipper and button closed and the shirts are long enough. Now if some crazy woman lifts my shirt we got problems....but I feel good looking more like myself today...me with a basketball under my shirt. So maybe I should wear this shirt everyday. I even felt good enough today to stop into VIP to say hi to my former coworkers. lol I don't know if it's the heels or the sudden pop out (again) but my back is aching tonight....a good day though......I even got a hot fudge sundae with Mom & Dad at Friendly's. I'm really looking forward to seeing Fiddler on the Roof with the Bairs at Fulton tomorrow, oooo maybe I can try and dress up again. :) I just keep looking at my belly......it's feeling very weird to bend over. Okay try this........put a volleyball under your shirt and bend over to put your shoes on. I mean I'm not as huge as I know I will get, but there is some maneuvering that has to be done already. It feels like the balls gonna pop if I go straight down, so you bring your knees up and realize the ball is in the way, so then you start just doing some odd looking things to work aROUND the belly. Right now it makes me laugh.....I know eventually I won't laugh and I'll most likely cry but I'll try to laugh as long as I can.

Docs Appt Dec 18, 2007

This docs appt was a quick one and it went well. The babies heartbeats were 140 and 145. I gained 5.5lbs this month which she said is right on target. She said the goal is 4lbs/month. I asked her opinions on csections vs vaginal delivery and she said it will all depend on what happens at the end. If both babies are head down, then they will go ahead with vaginal delivery. If the first one is breech, they will do a csection. If the first one is head first and the second one breech then it can go either way but if I really am not set on vaginal delivery most time if either is breech they suggest a csection. She said it will also depend on the conditions of my labor and how far along I am. If I have high blood pressure or if it's too early, chances are a csection. I liked this doctor, Felicia and I'm kinda bummed that I might not see her again. They rotate you through all the docs at the practice so you have the doc that will deliver at least once. She also made the comment that my uterus has really pushed up into my stomach. I'm thinking it pushed up and out everywhere. lol

Two Healthy Babies.... A Boy & A Girl!!!

Ultrasound 16 weeks, 1 day: December 12, 2007

This has been the most exciting day so far. It was amazing to see the babies today on ultrasound (16 weeks, 1 day) and how much they have grown since 9 weeks, 1 day. They look like little people now. A friend from church did my ultrasound so that was extra special. She recorded it on video for us and gave us a bunch of pictures. While I was emptying my bladder Nick asked her if we could tell sex at 16 weeks yet. She said we should be able to and what do you know he first thing we saw on the screen was a penis. lol There was no doubt, he was making his boyhood known with a nice butt shot. I wish we had a picture of that...it was pretty funny. He was kicking and twisting and very active. She measured all the organs and arms and legs and checked the spine brain and heart of both and everything looked great. The girl she said was very photogenic. She was laying on her side moving her hands and sucking her thumb. We got to see them move a lot since she was measuring everything. Lots of piggies moving about. You could count their fingers and toes. The girl weighs 5 oz and the boy weighs 6 oz. Their heartbeats were normal, Girl was 146 and boy was 152. The boy is on my right side head down and the girl is on my left side head up. During the ultrasound the boy was facing my back so we were getting back views and butt views. He eventually at the end turned and that's the side picture that we got. She said at this point they have everything they need, it will just all get bigger and mature from here. She said the girl even has made her reproductive eggs that she'll use throughout her life. Amazing. They have fingerprints too. The details of God's creation are just amazing. I was in awe looking at them today and got a lil teary at how cute they are. What a blessing. I really just can't wipe the smile off my face today.
